Online Coin Flip: Heads or Tails in One Tap

Two options, equal weight, no coin in your pocket. The online coin flip tosses a virtual coin with a quick spin and a clear result — heads or tails, decided the instant you tap.

What the coin flip does

Tap once and the coin tumbles, lands, and shows a side. The result comes from your browser's random generator, so it is a genuine 50/50 call every time. The tool keeps a running tally of heads and tails, plus a short list of recent flips, all stored locally in your browser.

For a number instead of a side, the random number generator handles any range you need.

Heads or tails — and how it is chosen

The coin shows one of two faces:

  • Heads — the side with a face or emblem.
  • Tails — the opposite side.

Which one appears is drawn from crypto.getRandomValues, the same source a fair physical toss would need. Each flip is independent, so the next result never depends on the last.

Is the coin flip fair?

Yes. Every flip gives each side a 50% chance, and a previous heads does not make tails "due". Short runs of the same face are completely normal — flip a real coin ten times and you will very often see a pair or triple in a row. The wheel randomness explainer covers the same idea for the spinner.

When a coin flip is the right call

  • Deciding who goes first in a game or match.
  • Breaking a tie between two equal choices.
  • Assigning a task nobody wants to volunteer for.
  • A quick yes/no when you just need to move on.
  • A classroom demo of independent 50/50 events.

Tips for cleaner flips

  • Watch the tally if you lose count of a session of flips.
  • Clear the stats when you want a fresh run; recent results reset with them.
  • Use it on mobile — the page is responsive and one tap is enough.
  • Keep it local — your flips and counts never leave the browser.

Need more than two outcomes? Roll a die for up to a hundred sides, or play rock paper scissors for a three-way call.

One tap, one fair toss. Open the coin flip and toss.
